Symphony Creative Solutions Pte. Ltd. (SCS),* an NYK Group company, in cooperation with NUS Enterprise,** the entrepreneurial arm of the National University of Singapore, held a panel discussion on January 25 at BLOCK71 Singapore*** to promote open innovation in the shipping and logistics industry.
This was the second time SCS has held this event. Former SCS chairman Kwok Wai Chak, who also served the NYK Group as a corporate officer, drew upon his experience as a vessel captain and provided an overview of changes and challenges in the container shipping industry. A panel discussion followed and examined the use of advanced technology to address these challenges.
The event was attended by over 100 people, attracting good interest from a number of organizations, including startups, universities, government agencies, and shipping companies.
As a platform for open innovation in the shipping and logistics industry, SCS plans to hold a series of these events and sponsor a contest for startups this spring.
The NYK Group will continue to promote innovation and provide new value to the maritime and logistics industry by developing advanced, creative solutions.

ONE is a joint venture of Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as ??????K??? Line???), Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd (hereinafter referred to as ???MOL???), and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (hereinafter referred to as ???NYK???) set to start its business operations on April 1, 2018.
With the commencement of ONE???s business operations, there will be up to four companies, namely ONE, ???K??? Line, MOL, and NYK???operating on the same service concurrently during the transitional period until three pre-existing lines completely stop operating vessels. On January 26, NYK Line signed a contract with EDF LNG Shipping Ltd., a subsidiary of Electricité de France (EDF), one of the largest electricity companies in the world, to charter out a newly built liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier for seven years, with optional extension periods for up to 13 additional years.
The vessel will be built by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in Korea and is due to be delivered on April 30, 2020. The vessel will be fitted to EDF???s specific requirements and will have a 174,000-cubic meter capacity membrane-type cargo tank fitted with a GTT Mark III Flex cargo containment system* and a dual-fuel slow-speed engine (WinGD X-DF diesel engine).**
In accordance with its corporate strategy, the NYK Group will continue its efforts to provide stable energy transport services all over the world through long-term contracts for business with stable freight rates.

The Mark III membrane system is a cryogenic liner directly supported by the ship???s inner hull and designed to store LNG at near atmospheric pressure.
