On April 14, a new coal carrier, Isuzu Maru, was delivered at Oshima Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. (Saikai city, Nagasaki prefecture). The new vessel will be operated by NYK Bulkship (Asia) Pte. Ltd., an NYK group company located in Singapore, for the transport of coal for JERA Trading Singapore Pte. Ltd. (JERA Trading Singapore). * A delivery and naming ceremony was held at the shipyard on the same day. The ceremony was attended by Tomohiko Ono, Director of Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. (Chubu Electric Power), and Kazuo Ogasawara, NYK Managing Corporate Officer, among others.
Isuzu Maru will be the first coal carrier for an NYK Group???s overseas subsidiary to operate for a Japanese electric power company. The vessel will transport coal mainly from Australia and Indonesia to Chubu Electric Power???s Hekinan thermal power station, which is located in Hekinan city, Aichi prefecture, in Japan. Compared to the standard 70,000-ton (DWT) Panamax bulk carrier, the new Isuzu Maru has a wider beam and a shallower draft to improve transportation efficiency.
The NYK Group will continue its efforts to make use of creative solutions to provide stable and economical transportation of resources.

Key Opus, a bulk carrier operated by NYK, rescued a yachtsman in distress in the South Pacific on April 15.
While Key Opus was sailing from Brisbane, Australia, to Mejillones, Chile, the vessel received a request from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center of New Zealand to assist a yachtsman who had become stranded due to bad weather. The rescued Polish yachtsman is in good health and will be delivered from Key Opus to Polish consulate when the vessel arrives in Chile.

On April 1st, a deck officer named Tomoko Konishi became the first woman in NYK???s 132-year history to be promoted to the rank of captain.
Ms. Konishi joined NYK in 2004 after she graduated from the National Institute of Technology, Toba College in Mie prefecture. Since then, she has worked aboard containerships, pure car and truck carriers, and LNG carriers, among others, as a pioneering female officer. She has been active in a number of fields and has also used her onboard experiences in office work.
In 2004, NYK became the first major Japanese oceangoing company to accept female officers, and since then their numbers have continued to rise. The company currently has 14 working all over the world at sea and on land. NYK will continue with its efforts to encourage diversity in the workforce by promoting workplace environment and human resources.
