Swedish Delegation Visits NYK
On October 6, a delegation comprising 13 members of the Swedish Parliament???s Committee of Transport and Communications* and two diplomats from the Swedish embassy visited the NYK head office for a meeting with NYK executive vice-president Naoya Tazawa and NYK senior managing corporate officer Yasuo Tanaka.
NYK was placed on the committee???s schedule as a result of the company???s advanced efforts in addressing environmental issues. During the meeting, NYK reviewed environmental issues and regulations surrounding the maritime industry and introduced the NYK Group???s various initiatives, chiefly focusing on measures for optimal vessel operations through use of Big Data and proactive efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by shifting to eco-friendly LNG fuel, as introduced in the company???s "More Than Shipping 2018" medium-term management plan.
Afterward, opinions were exchanged, and an active question-and-answer session was held on topics such as modal shifts, LNG as a marine fuel, and environmental investment. Ms. Jessica Rosencrantz, vice-chairman of the committee and leader of the Swedish delegation, said, ???It was a valuable opportunity for us to learn much about NYK???s advanced initiatives, such as implementing eco-friendly technologies.???
NYK, as a good corporate citizen, will continue to take an active role in social issues, including environmental conservation, and will continue to make efforts to contribute to the achievement of a sustainable, improved global society.
