NYK Scholarships Offered for 15th Consecutive Year in China
During the month of November, NYK offered scholarships to 76 outstanding Chinese students at two Chinese universities. Since 2001 when the NYK Group initiated this CSR program, a total of 896 students have received the scholarships from NYK.
On November 18, an awards ceremony was held at Shanghai Maritime University (SMU), where 36 students were recognized for their academic excellence and fine demeanor and encouraged to develop themselves into socially responsible and intelligent young business men and women filled with an international vision. Those in attendance included Mr. Yuji Isoda, NYK corporate officer and chief representative for China, and Mr. Jin Yongxing, the chairman of SMU Council
At the ceremony, Mr. Isoda commented, "I believe mutual understanding and toleration is the ultimate goal of a quality education. And university is the best place to cultivate such a spirit. In fact, mutual understanding through face-to-face communication between youths like you is an indispensable process to achieving deeper, friendlier bonds between Japan and China." Mr. Jin spoke about SMU's cooperation with NYK and offered his sincere appreciation for NYY's 15-year devotion to maritime education.
On November 9, prior to the ceremony at SMU, another awards ceremony was held at Dalian Maritime University (DMU), where 40 students were given scholarships by Mr. Isoda. DMU vice president Shan Hongjun expressed his appreciation and respect for NYK's long-term support, particularly during years when economies and the maritime industry were struggling.
The NYK Group, as a good corporate citizen, will continue to support maritime education for global trade and society to contribute to the achievement of a better global society.
