LNG Ship Management

NYK LNG Shipmanagement (UK) Ltd was created in 2006 when the technical management of the group's LNG vessels was moved into a newly formed 100% NYK subsidiary. This new subsidiary was created using the same manuals, standards, systems, procedures and staff that had been built-up with the group since NYK's first LNG vessels were delivered in 1983. The aim of NYK Shipmanagement (UK) Ltd is to allow NYK to better deal with the growing importance of the Atlantic Basin, and to transfer valuable skills and experience into this region.

Offshore Services

In October 2008, we established the Offshore Business Group and made an entry into offshore business. Capitalising on technology and our expertise in the shipping business to enter the oil and gas exploration and development related business.

During many years of involvement in marine transportation including oil and gas, we have garnered highly specialised safety capabilities for vessel operations, handling dangerous cargo, and vessel management. Making use of our experience, we decided to expand our business from downstream to upstream which means oil and gas exploration and development related business. We expect that the worldwide demand for energy resources is growing and we will contribute to this growth by developing our acquired expertise over the years.

In 2009, we participated in a drillship project offshore Brazil, and in 2010 we established a shuttle tanker business that takes crude oil from offshore production units. Furthermore, in July 2011 we participated in a floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) project. Our growth in the offshore oil & gas industry continues and our business is expanding not only upstream but also into the floating terminal business.

lng services

Providing optimal and safe transport to meet the increasing demand for LNG and to be the world???s No. 1 LNG carrier.

The LNG Transport Division has grown in tandem with Japan???s gas and electric power companies since NYK commissioned Japan???s first LNG carrier in 1983. Demand for LNG is steadily expanding on a global scale. Gas demand is expected to increase further over the medium- to long-term through increased shale gas production in North America, the development of unconventional gas in many areas, and greater use of LNG.

NYK currently owns 67 LNG carriers, and one of the distinctive features of the LNG transport business includes long-term contracts with customers, usually around 20 years. In order to provide stable service throughout our long commitment to our valued customers, NYK thinks it is our responsibility to carry out many efforts behind the scene and particularly to educate and train personnel serving on board our LNG tankers.

As a major carrier of LNG, we are a part of many projects throughout the world, including those in France, Nigeria, Angola and Russia. In fact, we are now striving to be involved in shipments to emerging economies such as China and India, in addition to future projects centring on Australia, North America, Russia, and Africa.
