All shippers are reminded that the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency are carrying out a continuous programme of examining dangerous goods containers shipped from the port of Southampton.
Shippers are reminded that they have a statutory duty to comply with all the requirements set out in the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code.
This includes:-
- Correct documentation as per IMDG Code chapter 5.4
- Correct marking and labelling of packages as per as per IMDG Code chapter 5.2
- Correct placarding and marking of container transport units as per IMDG Code chapter 5.3.
- Correct loading of, and securing of items within, the container.
Failure to comply with any regulation, or failure to adequately secure items within a container, will result in the MCA issuing a Prohibition Notice. The container will not be allowed to be shipped until the shipper has rectified all deficiencies. The additional costs for this will be for shippers account.
