ArtistNYK London office recently held a private exhibition of artwork by disabled artist-in-residence, David Downes RCA.

David specialises in painting cityscapes and arrived at NYK London office in December to capture the stunning views from our office windows. David has a form of autism called Asberger’s Syndrome and the rare talent of being able to accurately draw complex architectural scenes. He is represented by the charity, Gig-Arts who support disabled artists throughout the UK. Over the following 3 months he produced a body of work which was exhibited in the London office on the evening of 17th March.

Graham Wood, HR Director for NYK Group Europe said;

“David’s presence in the office has provided a point of interest for staff and visitors alike. He has brought colour and creativity into the working environment. NYK is delighted to support him to further his talent.”

The exhibition was attended by NYK staff, supporters of David and local media. The event was a great success, resulting in 6 paintings being sold. The Independent newspaper has subsequently printed a feature on the project.
