Schoolteachers Spend Two Days in Study at NYK

On July 23 and 24, NYK welcomed 10 elementary and junior high school teachers from Tokyo for a program to promote their understanding of corporate activities.

This training program was held during the schools??? summer vacation to deepen the teachers??? understanding of human resources development and environmental measures, some of which could be used in future school management. This is the 21st year for NYK to provide this program, which was arranged in cooperation with the Japan Institute for Social and Economic Affairs.

The program included lectures about the NYK Group???s business, environmental measures, and CSR activities. In addition, the participants stopped by Japan Marine Science Inc., an NYK Group company, to experience its ship-handling simulator and also visited the NYK Maritime Museum and the museum-ship Hikawa Maru.

Some feedback received from participants included the following:

--???I learnt many things and thought again about a teacher???s everyday duties and how to interact with students.???

--"I realized that transportation by ships supports our daily life and industry.???

--"The lecture on safety management while handling a ship helped me learn again the importance of communication.???

NYK, as a good corporate citizen, will continue to provide programs that contribute to our society.

Over three dates in July, NYK hosted a safety promotion conference for shipowners and ship-management companies at the NYK head office in Tokyo and at Imabari city in Ehime prefecture.

This conference is held every year as part of the ???Remember Naka-no-Se??? safety campaign, which draws on the lessons learnt by the Diamond Grace oil spill in July 1997 to encourage all NYK Group employees to bear in mind the importance of safe operations.

This year, a total of 180 participants from 79 companies gathered at the conference. Under the slogan "Think, Act and Be Safe,??? participants reviewed actual collisions and incidents of engine trouble to prevent any recurrence. In addition, the understanding and cooperation of all was requested to formulate the ???creative solutions??? called for in the group???s ???More Than Shipping 2018??? medium-term management plan for the achievement of safe and optimal ship operations.

The NYK Group will continue to host this conference in order to ensure the safety of the entire NYK fleet, including NYK Group affiliates, shipowners, ship-management companies, and also marine- and land-related parties.
